Parents, guardians, or a trusted adult, this a lesson designed to start a discussion with your children.&nbsp; We are all struggling in today\u2019s world with some anger and it can be very damaging. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s talk to our kids and have an open discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When people (adults and children) get anxious, scared, or\nfrustrated it can easily turn to anger.&nbsp; Anger\nis a basic emotion.&nbsp; It can be positive\nor negative.&nbsp; It can spur us to act or it\ncan get us in trouble and hurt our health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Each\nperson<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong><strong>s experience with ANGER is different but for some it becomes a problem.\nAsk these yourself these questions<\/strong><strong>.&nbsp; <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Do others make me angry often.<\/li><li>My anger gets me in trouble.<\/li><li>I have occasionally become so angry that later\nI could not remember what I did.<\/li><li>Other members in my family have anger problems.<\/li><li>I have hit or harmed someone else when I am\nangry.<\/li><li>I often feel that I am the victim.<\/li><li>I often feel that no one understands me.<\/li><li>I have trouble controlling my anger<\/li><li>On average, I get really angry\u2026once a month,\nevery two weeks, once a week, every few days, every day.<\/li><li>When I get angry, I am most likely to\u2026run, cry,\nscream, hit someone, destroy something, etc.<\/li><li>I blame others for my anger. <\/li><li>I frequently say or do things that you later\nregret.<\/li><li>I hold in my anger\u2026silent anger.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>Emotions Behind Anger:<br>\n<\/strong><br>\nAnxiety<br>\nWorry<br>\nSadness (loss, disappointment, discouragement)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>***Anger is an important emotion\u2014indicates danger.&nbsp; <br>\n<br>\n****Anger is a choice\u2014if you believe you can change\nyour response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\ncannot always control the things happening around us but we can control our\nresponse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When you get angry look for<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>Triggers:<br>\n<\/strong><br>\nLosing patience<br>\nFeeling you are not appreciated or treated fairly (injustice)<br>\nMemories<br>\nPersonal History<br>\nWorry about problems<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How\ncan you change your response:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>Anger Management:<\/strong><strong><br>\n<\/strong>Keeping\na log\u2014when anger happens<br>\nRecognizing the feelings<br>\nUnderstanding Family Patterns (children imitate what they see)<br>\nKnow your body\u2019s response<br>\nDon\u2019t mask your emotions (they will come out in different ways)<br>\nWatching the media and anger (stay away if necessary)<br>\nYou can use anger for positive results<br>\nLearn to chill out\u2026time a time out<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Write\nabout your anger &#8211; journal<br>\nLaugh (it melts anger)<br>\nTake a mental vacation\u2014go to a place in your mind that you love<br>\nReleasing symbolically-write it down and throw it away<br>\nRelaxation Techniques-breathing, relaxing musles<br>\nTaking responsibility\u2026apologize<br>\nKeeping things in perspective\u2026don\u2019t over think<br>\nGet the facts\u2026sometimes we make up conversations in our head<br>\nRemember your view of what happened may be different from others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Weighing\nthe options\u2026what else can you do<br>\nBe a better listener\u2026sometimes we just didn\u2019t listen<br>\nCompliment others\u2026it feels good to make someone else happy<br>\nWatch your body language<br>\nCommunicate more clearly\u2026maybe they didn\u2019t understand you<br>\nBeing assertive, not aggressive (you don\u2019t have to agree but no need to get\naggressive)<br>\nSeeing how far you have come-compliment yourself <br>\n<br>\nOther ideas???<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Recognize your buttons:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">People nag you<br>\nThey tell others something you told them in confidence<br>\nThey try to boss you around<br>\nThey accuse of you something you didn\u2019t do<br>\nThey invade you space<br>\nAccuse you of saying something you didn\u2019t say<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Make repetitive noises<br>\nBorrow something of yours without permission<br>\nBorrow something and ruin it<br>\nWrite nasty things about you<br>\nGo through your things<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>How does your family handle anger?<br>\n<\/strong><br>\nBlows up<br>\nWalks away<br>\nYells<br>\nThrows things<br>\nGoes for a jog<br>\nHolds anger inside<br>\nSays mean things<br>\nTakes some time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Apologize<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">We all over react at times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How does your body respond to anger?<br>\n<\/strong><br>\nCry, face gets hot, grind teeth, roll eyes, breathe heavily, heart races, break\nout in rash, feel short of breath, get a headache, get a stomach ache, sweat,\nhave nervous twitches, muscles tighten, feel dizzy, feel nauseated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is okay to get angry but we need to control our response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What might you do to change your current response to take care of\nyourself?&nbsp;
